About Jordan
The unintentional expat blogger behind Smooth Trail Forge

Hello, I'm Jordan
I manage projects. I'm a parent and an expat living in Vancouver, Canada.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What started as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Canada wasn’t in the long-range plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much larger.
The initial months were demanding — fresh systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than anticipated.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines formed. We discovered places that worked for us, met other families, and started building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Smooth Trail Forge
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation advice or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Canada.
What This Website Is For (And What It Isn't)
This site is:
- Real-world experience from living in Canada
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something genuinely changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our time in Canada continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Vancouver or anywhere in Canada, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Jordan
